Sketchbook: Corner Door

I've been trying to carry my sketchbook around again, and after 2 or 3 beers I got gutsy enough to sketch in public. Probably the first time in a year that I've done that. The waitress took the beer bottle away before I could finish it, whoever guesses what type of beer it was wins a prize!

Beer in Progress...

It's Craft Beer Week here in Louisville, so when I popped into my neighborhood Valu Market for a few dinner items yesterday, I happened upon a BBC tasting event. It just so happened I was in need of a new beer for my beer series, so I snagged a tasty double IPA called Homewrecker. I started the painting tonight and hope to have it finished by next week.

Working on a Stella painting that I started like 3 years ago. I hate not finishing things, so even though I've outgrown my Stella phase, the painting will be finished. An additional challenge is that it's in oil which I'm out of practice with. Hope to finish it this week!

New Albanian Vase Growler

Over Memorial Day weekend, I spent a lovely afternoon sipping on New Albanian Brewing Co's Hoptimus at the Bank Street Brewhouse in New Albany, IN. The clever girls there were using New Albanian growlers as vases for some pretty wildflowers. Ah, summer and beer, they always go together. And in so many delightful ways.

Harp

This painting was commissioned by a friend for her sister and her husband who just had their first baby. They named their baby Harp after the instrument that was played in their wedding, but I’m sure it isn’t a coincidence that it’s also the name of a beer. The proud daddy owns a beer outlet in New York City. Hopefully they display it there and not in the baby’s room!

Bohannon Vanilla Creme beer

When I visited Nashville, my boyfriend's dad had 2 Bohannon Vanilla Creme beers stashed away in his fridge. I was lucky enough to try this delicious beer (which has since been discontinued). It tastes like cream soda. Mmmmmm.

My brother asked me to send him a test mail piece because he doesn't think his mail is working. Blue Moon

What's this? 2 posts in one night?

Here is the glorious Blue Moon, the 2nd in my series of beer paintings... yeah, I know, it took a while to take off. Patience, grasshoppers. I have a lot of delicious beers in my fridge that I need to paint before i can drink - how's that for incentive? I even started a new blog just for this project because I am so excited about it!

A small, quick, oil painting of a delicious beer. I had an oil paint-filled summer in 2002, but I didn't have the patience for it, so I quickly gave up. Now, 5 years later, I am starting slowly (and small) and will figure things out as I go. It's great fun! Of course, it sort of sucks not being able to scan it right away - this is just a crappy snapshot.

This is the first in a series of beer paintings which will be for sale. This one is not, however - I am trading it for the delicious cupcakes painted by Ms. Sarah Fox. I just got a really cool assignment that will keep me busy up until early next week, so the beer series will continue after that. If you have any requests, let me know and I'll make it happen!
