Heather

A drawing of a fellow classmate, Heather. Her hair is much, much curlier than my sketch conveys.

Class is almost over; when it's through I'll post my "Product Line." It's a little bit outside of my comfort zone (fashion forward? yeah right. Hello, Goodwill!) But I tried, and got some nice handwritten text out of it. I have also learned of some great blogs, met some nice people, and picked up a few Photoshop tricks. Additionally, it gives me quality doodling time.

Till next time, my faithful readers! Hi Jason!

Doodling

Just when I didn't think I could love NPR any more, they go and write a story that validates my doodling behavior.

Black is the new Green

A little something I put together for my office encouraging printing in black and white when possible. I'm really into handwritten type lately.

Leisure Ladies

A little doodle for a friend. Possibly for a t-shirt, but mostly just for fun.

A big shout out to Lines And Colors for featuring me and saying nice things about my beer series. And it's always flattering when beer connoisseurs notice me too!

Note to self: Finish the half finished beer canvases around the house.

class time doodles

I have been a busy bee (busy cat?) but have been slacking on my blog updates. I'm taking a class at UCLA which is keeping me busy, I'm redesigning my website, and I have been doodling and working on random small projects. Oh yeah, and I have that pesky full time job. For your viewing pleasure, here are a few sketchbook doodles I did in class the other night.

I'm a Big Winner

Well this piece is just bringing me all sorts of goodness! First, I was a featured artist on ImageKind, and now, I have won first place in the Colored Pencil Society of America's "Explore This!" competition! Check out my mini-artist profile on the gallery's website. My piece and the other top three will be featured in their international exhibition in Atlanta this summer. Hooray!

I'm working on a website redesign which has been keeping me busy. See you all soon!

Holiday Card

As with every Holiday season, I was pressed for time when it came to my Holiday card, but as an artist I simply cannot bring myself to send a store bought card. Fortunately, I have been trying to create more "finished" art using techniques typically reserved for my sketchbook, so I took the opportunity to do this card a bit differently. I started with the drawing of the poinsettia from my previous post, scanned in some handwritten text from my sketchbook, and then used the background of my Newcastle painting as the backdrop. Photoshop and InDesign were indispensable tools to create the finished design, but all of the elements were created by hand. I'm really happy with the way it turned out. A belated Happy Holidays to you all!

White Wedding

My cousin married her best friend, Mark, in March 2008 in Louisville. They were married at Holy Spirit Church (where I attended grade school) during the biggest snow storm in a decade. For Christmas, I commemorated their one-of-a-kind wedding day experience with a small drawing. If you look closely, you can see a little bride and groom on the doorstep.
